What to expect on campus during COVID-19

For summer semester, Georgian will offer a mix of in-person program delivery to meet required learning outcomes, as well as online delivery where appropriate. Most services will be available in person, with some continuing to offer remote service as well.

We’re closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in Ontario and following the direction provided by public health. Safety protocols are subject to change.

If you’re going on campus during summer term, please familiarize yourself with the information on this page.

Safety protocols

COVID-19 safety measures at Georgian

If you’re going to campus, you’re expected to read these two protocols that apply to all persons – at all times – while on Georgian property:

  1. Protocol for the Prevention of COVID-19 transmission
  2. COVID-19 Reporting Protocol

In addition, this infographic shows the safety measures you’ll be expected to follow to help ensure the risk of transmitting COVID-19 is minimized to the greatest extent possible.

Failure to follow these protocols may result in discipline in accordance with the student code of conduct and employee code of conduct.

For more information on Georgian’s enhanced cleaning practices and procedures, read our Protocol for Cleaning and Disinfecting during COVID-19.

Questions?

All questions regarding these protocols shall be directed to Campus Safety Services at ohs@georgiancollege.ca or 705.728.1968, ext. 6111.

Please note, safety protocols are subject to change based on public health and government guidelines.

Face masks

Masks are no longer required on campus

Effective June 25, Georgian has suspended masking in all locations on campus, unless required by lab-specific PPE requirements.

This follows the province’s announcement lifting remaining masking requirements across Ontario. Georgian will continue to monitor the ongoing pandemic and will respond to any emerging guidance from public health and the government.

While masks are no longer required, they are still strongly encouraged as an effective measure against the spread of COVID-19 and its variants.

Anyone who wishes to wear a mask on campus will have their choice respected.

Vaccination

Vaccination is not mandatory to come to campus

Effective April 23, Georgian has rescinded the Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Procedure.

Vaccination is still strongly encouraged for all Georgian students and employees, but proof will no longer be required to enter campus.

Information for those looking to get vaccinated

Please check with your local health unit to learn about nearby clinics and appointment options:

In Canada, if you’re five years of age or older, you’re eligible for a vaccine. In Ontario, you don’t need a valid Ontario health card to book your appointment.

To book your vaccine over the phone, call the provincial call centre at 1.833.943.3900.

You can also register online for a vaccination appointment. If you don’t have an Ontario health card and you live in Simcoe County or Muskoka, complete this online form to request a pseudo health card number for use in the vaccine registration form. Access more information on the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit COVID-19 vaccination webpage.

Entrances and screening

All entrances are open and self-screening is encouraged

Active screening has been discontinued and all entrances are open.

You will not be required to complete the screening assessment on the Safe@Georgian app anymore. To support the health, safety and well-being of our Georgian community, everyone is encouraged to self-screen before coming to campus.

What to do if you feel unwell

If you’re not feeling well for any reason, please stay home and do not come to campus.

Use the provincial self-assessment tool and follow the guidance provided. Students are expected to contact their professor(s)/instructor(s), and employees are expected to contact their manager if they can’t attend campus.

COVID-19 cases on campus

No longer tracking positive cases on campus

As of Jan. 3, 2022, Georgian has suspended its COVID-19 case reporting dashboard. This suspension is aligned with changes to case and contact management announced by the Ministry of Health and Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, and consistent with reporting in elementary and secondary schools.

Records of cases from October 2020 to December 2021 remain archived on this page.
