What’s your story?
The Georgian community is full of unique, inspiring perspectives —and we’re sharing them as part of an ongoing series.
For the longest time I had been on a single path for what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be a welder once I graduated high school. I took all technology-based classes, and I had my mind stuck to it. But I got in with the wrong group of people and it messed up my whole plan. I stopped performing well in welding and I lost interest. I didn’t know what to do.
It wasn’t until I had a culinary teacher in Grade 11 tell me I would be a great chef. He told me that he would be there for me no matter my decision, but he pushed me to be better. He made me believe in myself, and I can honestly say if he didn’t I probably wouldn’t be going to Georgian in the Culinary Management program. One teacher believing in you can make a huge difference. I gained so much from it that I will never forget.
